    Dear Edgewood families,
Many of you have noticed and expressed gratitude that Edgewood Highland was able to erect a new flagpole. Families told me that when the building was originally built, there was a flagpole and were happy to see it replaced. We were able to fund the flagpole, due to the generosity of Mr. Alan Shawn Feinstein. We will be having an official ceremony, with the students, staff and Mr. Feinstein The date to be announced and families are welcome. We will display the flag daily, weather permitting.
Many parents reported to me about the animal owners, who continue to walk by the school and do not clean up after their pets. I have taken immediate action. Signs will be posted on the fence which will make it clear that there is camera surveillance and, by law, you must pick up after your pet.
Students in Grades 3, 4 & 5 will be beginning to take the PARCC assessment on Monday, April 10th. Please make sure your child reports to school on time. Our students are excited to begin and their behavior during past assessments have been exemplary. Grade 4 will be taking the NECAP Science in May.
Our Data Team has already begun working on our School Improvement Plan for 2017-2018. Our focus will be on creating positive mindsets and continuing to increase student engagement.

Here is a great article about the use of digital media and our children!!
We believe in the importance of parents helping children find a healthy balance with screen time. This is challenging! Our Screenagers team is made up of parents who know this all too well. We hope you find the ideas below helpful. You can also consult many resources at www.screenagersmovie.com.

What does the Elementary School Counselor do?
Our School Counseling program is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature. Our program works to help ALL students achieve success in school and develop into responsible, contributing members of our society. Elementary counselors offer:
    · Whole-class developmental guidance lessons on topics such as study skills, problem-solving and goal setting, coping and interpersonal skills, bullying, and career awareness
Individual and small group counseling to address academic or personal/social needs
Consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, administrators, and other support personnel to ensure that each student achieves his/her full potential
Here at Edgewood, I also work with all the staff to ensure that all our students behave in a safe, kind, and respectful way, just as our daily pledge says.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you feel that I could be of assistance in any way. I look forward to a wonderful year here at Edgewood Highland School!
